Race Information:

The Event

Take on the Ellesmere Triathlon in the beautiful surroundings of The Mere at Ellesmere, incorporating the UK Triathlon Sprint, Olympic and Middle Championships 2027. Featuring a scenic open-water swim, countryside cycle course and traffic-free run.

Whether you're new to triathlon or an experienced triathlete, the Ellesmere Triathlon offers a fantastic challenge in a friendly and welcoming setting. Even as an event championship, it’s still a great choice for beginners, with a supportive atmosphere that makes it an ideal introduction to triathlon.

Taking place at The Mere at Ellesmere, both events use the same fantastic venue and courses. By entering, you’ll automatically be eligible for Championship awards. Prizes are awarded to open and female top three overall and winners of each five-year age group category, in the Sprint, Olympic and Middle distances.

The Mere has been awarded the Green Flag Award for 13 consecutive years, recognising it as one of the UK’s finest parks and green spaces.

The Ellesmere Triathlon offers a fantastic challenge through some of the most scenic surroundings in Shropshire.

The race begins with an open-water swim in the calm, freshwater Mere, with spectators lining the shore to cheer you on as you take on the first discipline.

Next, the cycle course takes you through the beautiful Shropshire countryside. With tarmac roads, scenic views along the way, it’s a great opportunity to settle into your rhythm and enjoy the ride.

The final challenge is the run, taking you alongside the Mere, through woodland trails and onto traffic-free pathways. With supporters cheering you towards the finish, you’ll have one final push before crossing the line and celebrating your achievement.

HOW IT WORKS

A relay team can consist of two or three people.

Each member of the relay team completes one or two of the three disciplines in the triathlon.

The swimmer completes the swim, then the swimmer passes the electronic chip to the cyclist inside the cycle transition area.

The cyclist completes the cycle course and passes the electronic chip to the runner in the transition area.

The runner completes the run and hands in the electronic chip at the finish line.

All team members can cross the finish line together and collect their medals.

Ange M

Shropshire Triathlon - 2022

This is my 3rd year at Shropshire, opting to try the sprint distance to check out the alternate cycle route. An event I've loved everytime I've undertaken it. There is challenge with the hills, but we don't do triathlons for them to be easy. Great support from locals, spectators, crew and other competitors. Perfectly set up for serious competitors, first timers and those wanting to just push themselves. Will I be back, more than likely 😉

Shropshire Triathlon - 2021

A brilliant event with a brilliant atmosphere. Welcoming, fund and supportive, but great for those wanting a more competitive race too. Super friendly staff and very well organised. I'll definitely be back next year!

Thank you for yet another supremely run event. Always friendly but professional. It doesn’t matter what level you are, we are all treated the same. Great for beginners or seasoned athletes.
