Due to the extra work involved in relocating and delivering the race at Alderford Lake, our team is currently extremely busy. As a result, replies to emails and phone calls may take longer than usual. We really appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
We are deeply saddened to share that a teenage boy tragically lost his life at Powell’s Pool in Sutton Park on Thursday evening. Following this heartbreaking incident, Birmingham City Council has cancelled all events at the park.
As a result, and out of respect, we have made the decision to relocate the Birmingham Triathlon to Alderford Lake, which is a one hour drive from Sutton Park. The triathlon distances will remain exactly the same, with the exception of a minor adjustment to the Super Sprint and Fun Triathlon cycle course. The swim will now take place in Alderford’s beautiful, spring-fed lake.
All competitors have been updated via email with their new start times and event information.
The UK's second largest city again hosts The Birmingham Triathlon at the fabulous Commonwealth Games venue of Sutton Park. This beautiful rural setting with closed to traffic cycle course is a true test for competitors of all abilities, whether first time novice or experienced club and age group triathlete. The swim in Powell's Pool seen at the Commonwealth Games Triathlon 2022, is a perfect setting for the start of a memorable triathlon experience.
Whether you want to “Tri a Triathlon” or are an experienced triathlete, The Birmingham Triathlon has challenging distances for all abilities.
Swim, Cycle and Run in the wilderness within an urban environment at Sutton Park, with its captivating scenery via the accessible network of roads and paths.
The Birmingham Triathlon @Alderford kicks off with a swim in the beautiful, spring-fed Alderford Lake, offering crystal-clear waters that make for a refreshing start to the race.
Following the swim, participants will transition to the bike section that winds through the stunning Shropshire countryside, taking in quiet roads and scenic rural views.
The final leg is a run that laps around the lake, giving athletes a picturesque route with panoramic views of the water and surrounding nature. The run course is one lap for Super Sprint athletes and multi-lapped for those participating in the Sprint and Relay Triathlon.
Spectators will enjoy great visibility of the swim, transitions, run and finish line from the lakeside area, making the event both exciting and accessible for supporters.
